The Osipovichi Region is one of the most picturesque places of Belarus. The region is situated in the south-west part of the Mogilev oblast within the Central-Berezina plain. The territory of the region is predominantly flat with a slight rise in its western part. The forests make up 60% of the region’s territory, farmland - 29%, lakes and ponds – 2%, swamps -2%. Some 20 rivers flow through the region, including three major rivers – Berezina, Svisloch, Ptich.  Total length of the river network is 351km. There is a large water-storage (1307.7 hectares), a water power plant and the Svisloch fish farm on the Svisloch.

MINSK, 4 August (BelTA) – Belarusian government agencies must do their outmost to prevent fires in the country, the press service of the Belarusian head of state quoted Alexander Lukashenko as saying on 4 August. The government, governors, the Emergencies Ministry, the Interior Ministry and other government agencies have been instructed to step up control over fire security, to mobilize all the available resources and take comprehensive measures to prevent fires and other emergencies that can be brought about by the abnormal temperatures.

MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) – Belarus plans to open its cultural centers abroad. It is envisaged in an action plan of initiatives offered by the participants of the 5th Congress of the Belarusians of the World that was held in Minsk last year, BelTA learnt from the Culture Ministry of Belarus. Such centers including public libraries of the Belarusian literature can be set up in different countries. Cultural centers of Belarus will be soon opened in Russia, Lithuania and other states.

MINSK, 2 August (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in using Chinese innovative technologies to create new high-tech enterprises in Belarus, Igor Voitov, Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology, told a session of the working commission for scientific and technical cooperation between Belarus and the Chinese province of Shandong on 2 August. “We are interested in attracting advanced technologies of China to our enterprises,” said the head of the committee.

NESVIZH REGION, 23 April (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes that the pace of the sowing campaign is acceptable but the quality should be improved. The head of state made the relevant statement as he visited the agricultural company Gritskevichi in the Nesvizh Region on 23 April, BelTA has learned. Agriculture and Food Minister Semyon Shapiro told the President, so far 81% of the area to be under crops has been sowed.

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – The large distance between Belarus and Venezuela will never be a hindrance to building stronger bilateral relations. The statement was made by Belarus First Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko as wreaths were placed at the memorial plaque in the mini park named after Simon Bolivar in Minsk on 19 April on occasion of the 200th anniversary of Venezuela’s independence. Vladimir Semashko believes the ceremony is a testimony to sincere friendship and fellow feeling of the Belarusians about Venezuela and the Venezuelans about Belarus, a testimony to the expanding cooperation and affinity of the nations.

MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad upon the national holiday – the Evacuation Day, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service. Alexander Lukashenko noted that Belarus highly values friendly relations between the two countries and expressed his confidence that mutually beneficial cooperation will keep expanding in various areas for the benefit of Belarusian and Syrian people.

CARACAS, 16 April (BelTA) – In April 2010 the Venezuelan side will provide Belarusian constructors with 260-hectares of land to construct a satellite town in the Barinas State. The project envisages the construction of 10,000 apartments, BelTA learnt from Alexander Mysov, chief architect of the project, head of the Belniigradostroitelstvo company. The agreement on construction of the satellite town was reached during a meeting of Belarusian Minister for Architecture and Construction Alexander Seleznev and Public Works and Housing Minister of Venezuela Diosdado Cabello in Barinas on 15 April.

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – I will always protect the interests of Belarusian people, Church and the country’s independence, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko as he visited Holy Spirit Cathedral on 4 April. “We need our own land, our own state in order to let the believers of different faiths be arbiters of their own destinies. We have to protect this land and God forbid protecting it in a war,” said the President.

Alexander Lukashenko is scheduled to meet with President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Governor of the Brazilian State of Goias Alcides Rodrigues Filho.

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – The Mogilev-based chemical fiber maker Mogilevkhimvolokno has become a full-fledged member of the International Rayon and Synthetic Fibers Committee, the Belgium-based umbrella organization for the European man-made fiber industry, Deputy Head of Mogilevkhimvolokno’s Marketing Department Sergei Kravtsov told BelTA. The CIRFS accounts for over 85% of Europe’s man-made fiber production.
